Terms of Use
Last updated: July 26, 2026
These terms govern your use of the Miniglot iOS app and this website (together, the "Service"), operated by the Miniglot team ("we", "us"). By using the Service you accept them. If you do not, please do not use the Service.
The Service
Miniglot is a vocabulary-learning app for Chinese, Japanese, and Spanish. It presents words in a feed, schedules reviews with a spaced-repetition algorithm, and can optionally limit access to other apps until your daily reviews are done. The app is currently free; we may introduce paid features later, and these terms will be updated before we do.
No account required
The Service works without registration. Your progress lives on your device; if you delete the app without a backup, that progress is gone. We cannot restore it, because we never held it.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- misuse the report or suggestion endpoints (spam, automated abuse, injection attempts);
- reverse engineer the Service except where the law allows it regardless;
- republish or resell the vocabulary decks or any part of the Service;
- use the Service in a way that breaks applicable law.
Focus mode
Focus mode is optional and off by default. It uses Apple's Family Controls and Screen Time frameworks: you choose which apps to shield, iOS applies and removes the shields, and Miniglot itself is never blocked. Shielding depends on Apple's frameworks and your device settings; we are not responsible for behavior controlled by iOS, including cases where a shield cannot be applied or is removed outside Miniglot.
Educational content
The decks are prepared with care but may contain errors or omissions. Translations, readings, and example sentences are learning aids, not authoritative references, and the Service does not guarantee any level of language proficiency. If you spot a mistake, please use the in-app report button.
Intellectual property
The Service, its design, and its vocabulary content are our property or used with permission. We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive license to use the app on your own devices. No other rights are granted.
Third-party services
Miniglot relies on Apple technologies (Family Controls, notifications, text-to-speech, widgets). Your use of those is governed by Apple's own terms and privacy policy.
Warranties and liability
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill arising from your use of the Service. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the claim (which, while the app is free, is zero).
Changes
We may update these terms as the Service evolves. The date at the top shows the current version; continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the new terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of France. Any dispute relating to the Service falls under the jurisdiction of the French courts, without prejudice to the mandatory consumer protections of your country of residence.
